I don%26#39;t think it would work, even if you figured out a way to plug it directly in (my guess is that there wouldn%26#39;t be enough power to run a 3.5'' drive). It%26#39;d be pretty unsightly, too.Your best bet is to buy an IDE drive enclosure and just hook it up via USB. I%26#39;m planning on doing that with the drive I pulled out of my dead desktop a few weeks back.Using a IDE dvd drive on a laptop
yeah a ide exclosure would do that for ya, it plugs in usb to the lap top and thru a ribbon that the exclosure comes with to the hdd. just make sure it has those 2 things, you can get one as cheap as 20 bucks, and as expensive as 40
An external enclosure probably is the best bet or something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812107114
is it possible that i can plug my IDE dvd drive ( not a laptop drive) with a IDE ribbon into my laptop%26#39;s interface?
Probably not. The IDE cable/connector on the laptop is likely smaller. USB enclosure is definitely the way to go.
Laptops don%26#39;t have IDE connectors. Like said, you need an external enclosure and hook it up trough USB.
Laptops don%26#39;t have IDE connectors. Like said, you need an external enclosure and hook it up trough USB.
Laptops DO have IDE connectors. They are just a different shape and typically dont have ribbon cables - you plug the drive INTO the connector. The 2.5'' drives common in laptops are all IDE.

Its not something you can buy at Compusa, but I bet you someone could rig a cable to make it work. However, the USB enclosure route is still the easiest/most convenient route.
