startup problem [56k]

This isn%26#39;t strictly to do with hardware, but i didn%26#39;t know where else to put it. Anyway.. recently when i start up Windows XP [media center edition] i get this strange thing happening. The windows theme seems to change all by itself. It starts off fine with the normal MEDIA CENTRE S.TYLE But then it changes all by itself to the WINDOWS C1assic 5TYLE[which looks crap in my opinion - thats why i find it so annoying] Then after a minute or so, the THEME changes back to MEDIA CENTER I%26#39;ve had a good look at the theme settings, but i can%26#39;t seem to find any problems....  Basically, does anyone know what is causing this problem and how to get rid of it ? PS... GS won%26#39;t let me type the word C.L.ASSIC or S.T.Y.L.E  startup problem [56k]
maybe something is wrong with the start up registry. try a registry cleaner, do windows updates, reintsall drivers, dirext c, make sure all your administrative and start up settings are where they should be. try disk defrag, and then run chkdsk. if that all goes well could fix a small problem thats causing this. worst comes to worst it could be a ram problem, and its forgetting this certain files on start up, i just went thru this. in that case, check your ram with memtest86+ on startup by booting from the cd that you can burn for free. could be your ram or hdd causing this toostartup problem [56k]

I%26#39;ll have a look into some of those things.
ok. i tried chkdsk and the windows registry cleaner [windows live OneCare].  But it doesn%26#39;t seem to have made much difference. Anyone got any ideas?

Right click in Mycomputer then properties then Advance then under Perfomence goto Settings (or like that I don%26#39;t remeber the name coz I%26#39;m using French). In there change settings to Ajust For Best Apperence.
did you try memtest86+? your ram might be losing files left and right causing that like it did to me. also, try right clicking on the desktop, and what things are checked off/ you know like show desktop, etc. sometimes one of those will get unchecked and i forget which one but anyways it messed up my theme once too. hopefully its just a little file problem and not a hardware problem. i say worse comes to worse, reformat, if you get a problem like this again, id look into your ram or hdd
I remember something like this happened like this to my XP pro and it went back to classic (it was constantly on classic) so I reinstalled Winows and it worked fine. The thing is I was tampering with theme settings so I think I might of deleted the newer theme.

But it seemed rather confusing, so i will have to sit down and have a propper read through it.You say you had a RAM problem. Did you have to buy new RAM or did Memtest86+ fix your problem ?
memtest86+ is a program you burn on a cd and boot from it on start up, it tests your ram, but doesnt fix it. its tests it very well and accurately since it is so hard to be sure what the problem is in most computer problems. so if this tells you the ram is bad, than it is. mine found errors, so i got my ram replaced. i then got that replaced, reinstalled windows to be sure, and still had file problems, now im awaiting my harddrive to be replaced which i found out was also bad. in my case i had more than 1 bad part, in yorus it might just be the ram or it might be something else or it might just need a fresh install of windows. but memtest86+ will be a good start.
