Upgrade to Quad Core!!
Hey there, just wondering if anyone could help me out with a tech question! I own a T180 - A244 Acer Aspire Desktop, (AMD 64 Athlon X2 Dual Core 3800+, 1GB RAM, 250GBHD, Nvidia7500LE).
When Quad Core comes out will I be able to upgrade to it, or will I have to replace the motherboard? I noticed that AMD Dual Core fits straight into single CPU motherboards without any alterations! Any advice would be great!!
Kindest Regards

well if Acer is anything like the big general pc builders (Dell, HP), the case in non-standard case and non-standard mobo, so you can%26#39;t get a new off-the-shelf mobo unless you do major reconstruction (not really worth it imho), you might need a new board for the AMD quads, not sure (Intel user here lol).Upgrade to Quad Core!!
yeah, i was a heavy intel user, i have a 3ghz pentium 4 laptop, thought I%26#39;d give amd a go, very cheap cpu%26#39;s. performance has been good, i think the tower is good, theres heaps of upgrade space, 3 extra slots for ram, pci express, etc, the only downside to the tower is the power supply which is 300w, acer and other companys usually only give you the power u need to run the stuff inside never any extra, so ill definately need to upgrade the power supply
The AMD quad core is a new architecture that will require a new motherboard that is not yet available.
