Sorry if this doesnt go here but this and the 360 forums are the only places i can think this could go. Could someone who uses a windows ICS connection to access xbox live help me out.I am one of those people who has this connection, and i dont mind having to switch on my pc whenever i want to access live but i do have a problem with having to switch off my firewall, if i do not switch my firewall off then xbox live fails on the DNS test but works a treat when my firewall is off.Now ive read that my firewall doesnt accept ICS connections (im using comodo firewall) and so i tried using zonealarm and i found that this firewall also doesnt support ICS connections.I am not comfortable completely switching off my firewall to use xbox live so i was just wondering you people with ICS connections to live what firewall do you use that allows you to keep it on?thanks. what firewall to use with xbox live?
if you knew what ports xbox live used to may be able to make a port exception. but i cant gurantee that will work.what firewall to use with xbox live?
i can assure you the possibility of that is not likely at all. they cant just ''hack'' into your PC and start ganking all your stuff. while it is possible theres a lot of variables your probably not aware of. you have to go through a NAT server to get out into the internet, and that changes your private ip address into a public one. so even if he did find any of the packets you were sending out into the internet, he would only see your public IP, which is useless. the hacker would hae to go through a LOT of trouble and hackers dont like that.
oh really? wow i didnt know that, so whats with so much fuss about everyone all need firewalls etc if there not really that important?i remember reading somewhere on the internet that most computers only need to be exposed without a firewall for about 25 minutes before hackers have accessed it.
why do you care so much if your firewall is on or not?
lol..ive had windows xp for 5 years.not once has anyone hacked into my computer and stole my information..I never use firewalls. Btw, your computer can still get hacked into if you have a firewall.
that can hold true, but i think the article may have exagerrated the fact that hackers can just access your computer at their will. there are ways to remotely access a computer. there is remote desktop, which is built in windows, and PC anywhere. but to use remote desktop you have to allow people to access you by turning it on. and remote desktop is only effective on a LAN. people outside the network wouldnt be able to access it. and PC anywhere requires port forwarding on the router as well as installing it on the client that you are accessing. maybe the article was referring to trojans, viruses, worms that sorta thing. Also, when windows XP first came out there were major security weaknesses and hackers exploited those. but again to my knowledge the hackers didnt have full control over peoples PC%26#39;s, they just used the weaknesses to inject viruses and trojans into the computers.
Actually, the private IP is still encapsulated within the packet with the Public IP so that it can create two way communication. It is the same concept in tunneling. Although this is true, most crackers (Hacker is a person who breaks security to find a flaw and alert the person. Cracker does damage.) don%26#39;t hit PCs just for the heck of it. Most either find a server, hit it with a brute force password guesser or Denial of Service attack. If they do target one PC, they are usually a script kiddie thinking that they are a cracker because they downloaded a program that anyone can use. Also, most people do get hit my password guessers all of the time but they don%26#39;t realize it do to the fact that they don%26#39;t check their system logs.
yea hackers try to hit servers a lot more than they would a desktop. they just wanna raise hell and crashing a server does a lot more damage then crashing a desktop.
