So i have a brand new machine... Intel Core 2 duo E6420 with a Asus 680i motherboard and a 8800GTS. Custom build.. Ram is silly swissbit 2x512 eached clocked at 266.7 MHZ with a score of 4.5 in Windows Performance Index Vista where as everything else has a 5.9, including my 1TB harddrive.
I have ordered some new Ram Geil 2x1gb 800MHZ ram just incase it is the ram that is causing this suttering. Basicly when i play Doom Ultra quality and Fear with everything maxed out the Framerate is smooth but it stutters like mad. Every 2-4 Seconds on fear and sutters on Doom 3 freaquently but not as often.
Even when my system is idle i am using over 45% ram usage with my 1024MB. So could it be the ram that is doing it? I mean, according to CPU-Z clocked at 266.7 is laughable. The ram is replaced from my old PC world stock computer and put into my machine untill i brought some new better ram, now that i have done i can replace these on tuesday but i just wanna get some clarafaction to see if it is the ram or not that is causing these stuttering... bare in mind it only happens on maxium detail im talking EVERYTHING cranked up top notch.
Thanks in advance!
PSuttering... Could it be the Ram?
Bump, any ideas?Suttering... Could it be the Ram?
Yeah, very slow RAM on Vista will give you stuttering.
I%26#39;m surprised you could even run Vista on that RAM.
There is nothing wrong with the speed of that ram, just the amount maybe. 266x2=533. So you are running 533 which as long as you don%26#39;t overclock 533 will give you a 1:1 FSB DRAM ratio. 1066/4=266 FSB 533/2=266 DRAM. Having the faster ram will allow you to oc higher (and keep a 1:1 ratio) or tighted up your timings.
the rest of the rig is badass though :)
1:1 ratio is ideal, linc and synched for c2d is best, it may slighlty get better if u have 1066 mhz ram. But its been provem on evga forums its not a big deal. you are running pc2-4300 ram, which is still fine no worries I use pc2-4300 + pc2-6400 4 gigs of ram + qx6700 linc and synched @ 3.4 ghz so I know it runs good. And I could make it got to 800mhz, with 5-5-5-15 but 4-4-4-12 has scored higher on 3dmark06.Oh and vista uses 2 gigs of ram idle here.
So you think it could just be the amount then? So when i upgrade to my Geil 2gb i should notce a performance increase? Since that will be running at 1600MHZ. And if you are correct that Vista does indeed require 2 ram, well if vista REQUIRES 2gig shouldnt i get another gig then so i will REALLY be using my 2048 rather then half of it?

That is why I%26#39;ll probably be sticking with windows xp for a long time
Just thought i would give off this info so you can have a better judgement on it... This is bascily a copy and paste from CPU-Z.. Imageshack aint working for me. General
Type: DDR2
Channels# Duel
Size 1024MBYTES
Timings
Frequency: 266.7
FSB DRAM 1:1
CAS# latency 4.0 clocks
RAS# to CAS# delay 4 clocks
RAS# Percentage 4 clocks
Cycle Time (Tras) 11 clocks
Bank Cycle Time (TRC) 15 clocks
Command Rate 2T
Is it as you suspected or worse?
