For only 1024x768 you dont need a 7900gs, you can happily get away with just a 7600gt, they%26#39;ve got very cheap since the release of the 8600 series. The 7900gs will be overkill for that res., but it will last you longer Whats a good GPU for....

I agree with the other poster. I have the 7600gt (pci-express0 card and it runs my games great.
Like the other guys said the 7600GT is a good card, but the 7900GS would last you longer.
i dont think 7900GS is overkill. it%26#39;ll give you higher FPS at whatever res. compared to 7600GT
At that res, i know people are suggesting go with the 7600GT and i do agree it is an amazing card, BUT if you want to be future proofed i suggest going for the 700GS or 8600GT (8600GT) would be my choice just because of the future proofing... DX 10 and it will every game coming out this year at that rez where as with the newer games, everything on max, you will struggle.

The 8600GT is no better than the 7600GT but costs twice as much! Furthermore, people should wait for the HD 2600 XT before opting for a mainstream DX10 GPU.

[/QUOTE] seemed like I was the only guy on this forum who suggested waiting till the ATI DX10 cards are released. Anyway, the HD2900XT will be out very soon, as you can pre-order it on zipzoomfly.com already

I have heard different. I have heard that the 8600GT is twice as powerful. why unearth would the older same type card run better then the new same type card?
look at the bench marks and you%26#39;ll see, It will probably work better in DX10 games .

The benchies prove it
