Yeah, I would definitely be surprised. Motherboards usually leave the non-processing fucntions like video, storage, and sometimes sound to add on pieces. This allows more customization and greater performance by taking some of the processing duties of producing graphics and sound and letting a gfx card or sound carry the load.
