Processor Question

Right now I have a P4 3.2 2GB of RAM, 7600 GT (AGP)..   Somewhat average.  I am doing a major upgrade to the system... pretty much buying a new computer, however, I am re-using what I can... ie. tower, windows, Hard Drive. I am buying everything from New Egg, and I have been out of the loop for a while.  What is the difference between a Pentium D and a Core 2 Duo.  I see that Pent D%26#39;s have a lower FSB (typically 800mhz) and most run at 90nm... however I do see some that run at 65nm.  What is the big advantage between a Core 2 Duo and a Pent D?  I know people get the Duo because ''its the new hip thing.''  But if I can get a Pent D 3.4ghz for  $130 or a E6600 for $220 I dont see the difference other than the duo is a ''newer'' chip.  And even though the Duo%26#39;s are technically Quads... why get one when there is NOTHING that takes advantage of them.... and won%26#39;t for some time. I can buy a motherboard the supports both Duo and D... so when the time comes I can get a Quad... but eveyone getting a Duo just because doesnt make any sense when there is nothing that takes advantage of them... games this year and next are just now are scratching the surface of the  Pent D%26#39;s..Processor Question
Just go for the Duo. They perform a lot better, and they overclock better.Processor Question
There is a rather LARGE difference if performance. Just click on the link. Also the E6600 is only a dual core NOT a quad. http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?modelx=33%26model1=432%26model2=449%26chart=174

Get the core 2 duo

Aslo Core 2 Duo%26#39;s start out at about $115. Anyone would be better then a Pentium D. Especially if you will OC. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE%26N=2010340343+50001157+1050722265%26name=Core+2+Duo
if you were to compare these processors car-wise, the core 2 would be a BMW, and the Pentium D would be a buick. The core 2 duo has more L1 and L2 cache than the D, and also the core 2 has more built in instruction sets than the D. get the BMW bro...
lol the Pentium D is just two P4%26#39;s stuck together really it performance isn%26#39;t that good really, go for a Core 2 Duo, i suggest an E6600 probably the best bang for buck atm.
