Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6800 (2.93Ghz)
2GB DDR2 PC6400
BFG 680i SLI nForce Intel socket 775 DDR2 ATX
768MB BFG Geforce 8800GTX
2X 300GB SATA2 Seagate HDDs.
Antec 900 case
Coolermaster 850W PSU.
and a heatskin/fan because the processor is OEM.I%26#39;ve thought about saving myself some money by getting the QX6700 instead of the QX6800.Any one got any thoughts/suggestions? Is it an uber PC or does it need some tweaking? Specing up a new PC
saving money? when you%26#39;re gonna blow close to a grand for a processor, there%26#39;s no such thing as saving money... you might as well pick up the qx6800.Specing up a new PC
That thing is a beast:twisted: And it%26#39;s definitely UBER powerful, the only tweaking i could think of would be another GTX in sli, if your gonna spend thta much on a comp, you may as well go all out!:P.... to bad i can%26#39;t do that *sigh*
Thanks for the replies. Anyone else got suggestions?
I know the case is tempting and good-looking, but you are severely limiting your ability to sli that 8800 gtx, it simply won%26#39;t accomodate those two. One 8800 gtx and you already have to move the hard disk bay drive, so you can imagine what you have to do to fit two 8800 gtx%26#39;s. I really recommend a full tower for your system, or a very spacious mid-tower at the very least, and the Coolermaster Stacker 830, and its complete family line of Stackers will do the job, with the 830 being the first to be certified by Nvidia themselves to be an SLI casing. just in my honest opinion.
Thanks for that, i%26#39;ll have a look at that case.Anyone else got any suggestions?
Are you going to OC?
I would cut half the wasted money out. OC to high levels and spend that half I saved in 6 to 9 months on a machine that will ghost your original and cost less.
I'd save on the CPU and OC it. That leaves some cash free for an extra 768MB BFG Geforce 8800GTX.
SLI FTW.
BTW, are you going to put those HDD's in RAID or not?
I would do the Corsair 620wt PSU. Also I would do the Bad Axe 2 with no CPU change or the Asus Striker and drop my CPU to the QX6700
Dont get a QX6800, it%26#39;s a waste. For $500 less, you can get a Q6600, and then just get a cooler (which you were planning on anyway.) I reccommend the Monsoon II Lite, I guarantee you will get more performance out of that than u would with a QX6800 at stock. The Monsoon II Lite is like $150, but you%26#39;ll still be under budget. It is an amazing cooler, best on the market. If you don%26#39;t want to save the money, then spend the extra on some z-5500%26#39;s and an X-Fi :-D

When the Tuniq Tower gets the same results and is less $$$. Also the the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme is the best out there and is half the price too.For TEC towers cooled by air, you want the Amanda Titan or the Ultra TEC setup.
Ya I mean, the Monsoon Lite II only gives another ~3% performance over a Tuniq Tower and it does cost $100 more. :-\ I was just highlighting the best case scenario, if he got a TEC and a Q6600, he would pass the performance of a QX6800 for substantially cheaper.

[/QUOTE] oh no doubt about that. I agree with you 100%. Is he overclocking? I might have missed that. Hard to do this stuff at work. People in and out. Plus im on a slow ass P4 2.4Ghz setup with 768mb, but I got a FX5500 in the setup. Lol. Its dead and its not. Picks up and goes down. I hope its mainly down, because im done in 35mins.
Thanks for all the suggestions. To answer a few of the questions.I was going to RAID the two hard drives and probably have a couple more drives that weren%26#39;t RAIDed.I%26#39;ve been looking into overclocking for a number of years and it is something that I would consider doing.
Any more suggestions?
Are there any mobos that are decent and have two IDE ports on them?
Anyone?
pfffffft, highest i'd go is E6600. I'd get a nice 24 or 26'' 19*12 monitor and an HD 2900XTX with a P965 mobo. Silverstone 850W :D
If youre gonna spend that much money on a pc, make sure you have a nice 30'' monitor with an uber high res as well. Cut down to a QX6700, get another 8800gtx for SLi and beat the crap out of any game for the next few years...
